Rare Earth Hydride

Rare earth hydrides are difficult to prepare, and rare earth metals can form rare earth dihydrides, rare earth trihydrides or other non-integer ratio hydrides by absorbing a large amount of hydrogen. Rare earth hydrides are conductors (except EuH2 and YbH2). Rare earth hydrides are relatively stable in air, but they can quickly decompose and release hydrogen when they encounter acid or water. Rare earth hydrides will decompose when heated above 900 °C, and high-purity rare earth metal elemental powders can be prepared by heating to 1000 °C in vacuum. Rare earth hydrides have cubic centroid structure (LaH2, CeH2, PrH2 and NdH2), interlaced crystal structure (EuH2 and YbH2), cubic crystal structure (REH3) and calcium fluoride type structure (other rare earth hydrides REH2). Rare earth elements are widely used in hydrogen storage batteries, optical devices, hydrogen sensors and pressure actuators due to their optical, electrical and magnetic properties.
