Colorimetric Analysis

The chromaticity diagram is a plane diagram represented by the chromaticity coordinates of the function expression v=f(u) of the blackbody locus in colorimetry. The light color changes of the black body at different temperatures form an arc-shaped trajectory on the chromaticity diagram, which is called the Planck trajectory or the black body trajectory. With the needs of people to communicate, transmit, and study color information, the colorimetric diagram was used to develop a variety of distinctive color systems. Generally, the CIE1931 standard colorimetric system and the CIE1976 uniform color space was widely used[1]. The wavelength range of the colors shown on the chromaticity diagram is 380nm and 780nm, which is the color that the human eye can observe. At the boundary of the chromaticity diagram, it is all composed of monochromatic light. Any new color mixed by monochromatic light is within the area enclosed by the spectral locus.

Our Services

The chromaticity diagram has great practical value. Any color, whether it is the light source color or the surface color, can be calibrated on the chromaticity diagram, which makes the description of the color simple and accurate. Through the color confirmation of the chromaticity diagram analysis, we can ensure the correct identification of the color and the control of traffic safety, infer the mixed color from the primary color and obtain the purity of the corresponding color. Rare earth elements, as special luminescent elements, which can be used to synthesize specific colors light sources through the analysis of the chromaticity diagram. Alfa Chemistry provides the service about colorimetric analysis including but not limited to:

❖ Chromaticity diagram analysis, including brightness, intensity, color gamut, color equality

❖ Light source design

❖ Improvements to existing solution

Why need colorimetric analysis?

Any color is specified by the ratio of the three primary colors matching the color, thus each color occupies a certain position in the chromaticity diagram. The analysis of color gamut, hue, purity, and brightness in the chromaticity diagram can help us better grasp the performance of the color and help us synthesize the desired color.

The color description parameter

Hue (Dominant Wavelength)

CIE standard light source and the intersection of the point of the color and the spectral curve.

Purity (Saturation)

The deviation degree of point A from the spectral curve.

Brightness

This information is not available in the chromaticity diagram.

Color Gamut

Is the area of all colors obtained by light recombination.

The application of chromaticity diagram

  • Through the chromaticity diagram, the complementary colors of the spectral colors
  • Chromaticity diagram analysis is indispensable in the manufacture of displays
